"Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for Me"
                                                                                                                  Mt. 25:40

One of the goals of our program is to provide opportunities for awareness of and sharing in the church’s active concern for those who suffer from poverty, handicaps, and injustice. To promote this awareness, we encourage participation in different activities available as a group or as an individual.

Each Small Christian Community participates in two group service projects per year. One is our Harvest Sunday Food Collection. The food and monies that are collected are given to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Naperville. Harvest Sunday is done over two weeks. The first week, which takes place the last weekend of April, is for flyer distribution. The second week takes place the first Sunday in May and is for the actual food collection. We are always in need of volunteers to help us on the food collection day. Please contact the Youth Ministry office if you would like to help volunteer.

The second group service project is determined by the SCC group itself and is done sometime during the year. St. Raphael teens are dedicated to helping others! Recent examples of our SCC group’s service include:

  • Participation in the "Families Helping Families" Walk
  • Working at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry
  • Working at various "Special Olympics" events: track meets, basketball tournaments, volleyball tournaments
  • Interaction/playing games with residents of the Alden Rehabilitation Center
  • Working at Hesed House serving meals to the homeless, packing lunches
  • Participation in St. Raphael’s Annual Service Day project
  • Participation in the Christmas Sharing program
  • Making prayer blankets
  • Playing bingo and serving dinner to mentally disabled adults at the Naperville Community Center
  • Packing meals as part of "Feed My Starving Children"
  • Raking leaves for elderly people
