Adopt-A-Highway

Last month St. Raphael’s Knights of Columbus #14171 completed the third of four segments of the DuPage County Adopt-A-Highway Program. Approximately 16 volunteers including K of C members, family and friends of our parish participated in debris removal along 75th Street from Olympus to Gartner, including the medians. Previous clean-ups were performed in May and June with this year’s finale taking place on November 14.  Additional volunteers are welcome, after completing a waiver form and reviewing a short safety DVD  (To access the AAH Safety Video on line please click here ). For more information, please contact Marty Mazurek, K of C community activities director at mbmazurek@comcast.net
Thanks to all those who helped in the past

Roof Maintenance

Environmentally-conscious workers at St. Raphael were busy this summer performing maintenance on the roof of the school and gym. An Energy Star Approved product called STA-KOOL was used in the process. It is designed to reduce heat build-up, heat transfer and help reduce cooling costs. Company materials boast an energy savings of 30%. Victor and Mario Velasquez and their crew spent 5 days on this project. The new coating is expected to last up to 10 years. Thank you, Victor, Mario and your crew.

About Treasure Our Environment

Newly formed in 2009, Treasure Our Environment has been established as a conscious effort to be good stewards of the environment, the beautiful gift God has created for us. This ministry will promote and report on parish involvement, try to develop new ways of being environmentally friendly and live a little greener. New ideas and technologies are constantly changing the way we live on this earth. Better energy efficiency, using our resources prudently instead of wasting them and not tolerating pollution are of great concern, as we focus our vision on our planet. Together as a large and diverse parish, and through this ministry, we can choose to “Conserve & Preserve” our gifts of life on this earth, continue to be good stewards and always “treasure our environment.”
