Funeral Ministries
FUNERAL MASS COORDINATORS/WAKE MINISTERS
- Must be compassionate, caring and a good listener
- Preferably, funeral liturgy ministers are those who have experienced the death of a close loved one and have gone through the grieving process themselves.
- May have gifts in singing/playing an instrument (for wake services)
- Meet with a pastoral staff member and the family of the deceased at the Church (usually during the day) to plan the funeral liturgy.
- Assist the family in choosing appropriate prayers, scripture readings, music, etc.
- Trained to understand the Order of Christian Funerals and basic liturgy planning principles.
- Trained in grief support
- Trained to preside at wake services and the committal service at the cemetery
- Called as needed (usually with less than 24 hour notice)
