The Call

Every baptized Christian is called to ministry.
Some are called to Religious life, Priesthood, community.
Some are called to single life.
Some are called to married life, but all are called to ministry.

What is God calling you to today?
Are you called to earn a living to support yourself and your family?
Are you called to forego a career and be the primary caretaker of your spouse, children, or other family member?
Are you called to active ministry outside of your home, in your parish, in your community, or farther a field?

Listening to and answering God's call is not always easy, but the rewards are plentiful.
Greg Mortenson ( Three Cups of Tea ) started out to climb K2, but ended up building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan to 'fight terrorism with books not bombs.'
I may not be called to leave my family as the fishermen in today's reading were or to devote my life to building schools, but God is calling me.

I am called to be the best wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, teacher that I can be.
Listening to and answering God's call has provided me with many wonderful opportunities.
I gave up the possibility of a career in accounting and earned a degree in theology.
I gave up a job in ministry and spent time with my teenage daughter.

Throughout my adult life I have tried to live a life of discernment.
It has opened up avenues I never imagined existed.
It has provided me with friends I will cherish forever.
It has taught me to continue growing in my faith, through prayer and education, and to always be open to God calling me on a new and challenging journey.
