Habits of the Soul - Personal Reflection
God who is rich in mercy,,, made us alive in Christ. Ephesians 2:4-5 Mercy is a quality we all want in everyone around us. Who among us would not like our boss to forgive the error we made in the budget? Or the policeman to let us off with just a warning as we are caught speeding down the road? It is easy to look for mercy in others and yet not be merciful ourselves. How many times a day do you find yourself in the position where you have the opportunity to be merciful and yet do not take it? As a parent it is easy to overlook the chores our children neglect to do because they are "too busy" but as a co-worker are we as quick to show the same mercy when a fellow employee neglects something because they are "too busy?" How could they be so rude and put us behind schedule? It is so easy to come down and point out the errors in others. I myself know how much I resent it when someone points out my errors and yet I still do it to others. Thank goodness our Lord does not hold our errors over us but always is ready to forgive our flaws. As Psalm 103 states "Merciful and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger, abounding in kindness. God does not always rebuke, nurses no lasting anger, Has not dealt with us as our sins merit, nor requires us as our deeds deserve." What a wonderful thought that the Lord will be merciful to us no matter what we do. This Lent let us all be more like the Lord and show mercy to those around us.
